Christmas Eve: What Are You Pursuing?

Dec 24, 2025    Grant Agler

The Christmas story is filled with unlikely characters — outsiders, seekers, and people who, by all accounts, shouldn’t belong in the scene. In Matthew 2, the Magi travel hundreds of miles in pursuit of truth, and when they finally encounter Jesus, they respond with worship. In that same moment, King Herod hears the very same truth… and resists it in fear and control.

This message asks a simple but revealing question: What are you pursuing?

All of us chase something — success, power, meaning, approval, security — and our pursuit shapes our lives. The Magi sought truth, and it led them to Jesus. Herod sought control, and it closed him off to the very hope in front of him.

In a world full of shifting ideas and “wisdom of the age,” this message invites us to examine our pursuits — and reminds us that those who honestly seek truth will find it in Christ.
